Today was our first day at the YMCA doing the homeschool PE class they offer. WHAT A BLAST IT WAS!!!
Ayden is part of the preschool group of kids (about 20 girls and boys) and spends an hour in the gym playing age appropriate games and then an hour doing craft time. Today they made fish mobiles. She is a little bit sad because she doesn't get to go do swim lessons, but she is much too young for that still at the Y.
Blake was with the 6-8 year old group (about 30 boys and girls) and spends the first hour in the gym playing lots of RUNNING games and then the second hour is in the pool for swim lessons and then about 15 minutes of free swim. The swim part really freaked me out...too many kids going crazy and not enough teachers to really pay attention. I know they are all safe, just the mother part of me worrying. =)
*I think I will be keeping them in their normal swim class too, as long as we can afford it*
We did have to sign up for a YMCA membership to be able to do this fun class, but we are really hoping that this will help with the kids attitudes by getting their energy out and being able to spend more time with other home schooled kids and get out of the house even. We also are planning on going to the open swim as often as we can on Friday's when Jake is home. The kids love playing around in the kid swim area. It starts out 0" deep and only gets to about 3' deep and you can walk right into the lazy river that they have set up. Last Friday we spent over an hour in the pool and the kids still didn't want to get out!
I think the best part of all this is that during the homeschool session I do have to volunteer to help out in one area but then the other hour I am free to work out or just sit in the hot tub. I can do whatever I like in the facility for a whole hour. =) SO PEACEFUL!!! I really do wish it was the whole two hours, but I will take what I can get.
I look forward to continuing with this PE class and hope it is good for all of us!
